Marley News

My brother is training for a new job!

PAWS is proud to be working with the Oakland Police Academy K-9 Training Center! Change-of-career dog Marley entered the testing phase at the Academy yesterday and then will move on to the pre-service phase of Narcotic K9 training. He will be trained to detect cocaine, marijuana, heroin, crack cocaine and methamphetamine. We received notice today that Marley is adjusting well to his surroundings and Bob, the Canine Coordinator, is excited to work with him.
Marley is just one example of the great dogs that may not be suitable for Assistance Dog training, but can excel in a working capacity in other ways. Great job, Marley! We're proud of you!

Career change

I'm just not cut out to help someone with a disability but that doesn't mean I don't have a purpose in life. I was just meant to help a whole lot of people. Not just one. I've moved to a new school. It is called Mid-Mi Kennels. Mr. Mike came and saw me at PAWS and thought I have potential. They train dogs for law enforcement for narcotics or explosive detection. If I make it through the training I could work for a police department, border patrol or even at an airport. The possibilities are endless. Wish me luck in my new path. I know I'll do great.

Moving on

It was decided that Aussie & I were getting into too much trouble together. It was very hard for Mom to manage us both. I'm moving on to a new Mommy named Ingrid. She is a field trainer for PAWS. She is going to help me focus on what I need to learn to get to college. I have a LOT of labby energy & strength. I need to learn some self control. I met some new friends Topaz and Teyla. They are Laker girls like my sissy Aussie. When Mom #1 gets updates we will keep our blog current.
Thanks for following my adventure.

Christmas

I was helping Mom put up the Christmas tree. I spent a little time at HQ over the holidays so I missed Christmas morning at home. Santa did come and leave me some great toys. Mom said I am supposed to chew on these toys, not other things!
I was gentle and shared with Aussie. Owen got me a snuggie. It is warmer than my cape. I got a new John McCain. I must not chew off his legs. It is so tempting!

Train Ride

Bree & I went on the Huckleberry Railroad. I wasn't so sure about it at first. After a while the rocking put me to sleep. I had cold snow on my feet and didn't want to walk. where are my boots mom? Then our parents went for dinner. I needed another nap. On the car ride home I kept Bree from falling off the seat. She fell anyway, but slept the whole time.
